The profile is a description of a corpus

A provisional account of recurrent tendencies in a selected body of writing. Change the body of writing and the account changes; what stays stable and what moves is shown, together with the works responsible.

This is not the scholar's essence, not a reconstruction of the person, not a psychological profile, not a verdict. The scholar-level synthesis in the edition names 164 essays and was produced on 2026-07-28 from the essay-level accounts; it is one selection among these.

Band: interquartile range of section penetration across the selected works (dao-compass v2 extraction). Lapis tick: mean. Graphite tick: the mean of the previous selection, kept until the next change so the superseded profile remains visible. Δ: change of the mean; dimensions that moved less than 0.03 are marked stable.

§2

What the reader learns

That the aesthetic dimension of Su Shi is a property of his commemorative records and prefaces far more than of his policy treatises; that intellectual lineage rises when letters enter; that historical dynamics and authority are stable across almost any selection. None of this is a verdict about the man. It is a description of a corpus, and the corpus is the reader's to compose.

A profile that moves when the corpus moves is doing what it should. The interesting quantity is not the value of a dimension but its sensitivity: which selections change it, by how much, and which works carry the change. The list beneath the contour names those works, and each of them opens at the page where its sections and claims can be read.
